A new medication for the treatment of depression has recently been approved.
This medication, cymbalta (duloxetine), represents a new class of antidepressant medication: SNRI's or serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors.
Some of the possible advantages of duloxetine include:
1 - Efficacy in as little as two weeks.
2 - Efficacy for the somatic symptoms of depression (GI, muscle aches and pains, and headaches).
3 - Less appetite stimulation and weight gain than other antidepressants.
The only currently available medication similar to Cymbalta (duloxetine) is Effexor (venlafaxine).
