It is the second medication in this category, after Effexor (venlafaxine) and the related medication, Pristiq (desvenlafaxine).
Some of the possible advantages of duloxetine include: 1 - Efficacy in as little as two weeks. 2 - Efficacy for the somatic symptoms of depression (GI, muscle aches and pains, and headaches). 3 - Less appetite stimulation and weight gain than other antidepressants.
